Abhishek Singh on the IndiaAI Mission and Madhya Pradesh’s Role in Shaping National AI Infrastructure
Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh — As India accelerates its ambition to become a global leader in artificial intelligence, Abhishek Singh, CEO of the IndiaAI Mission and Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), highlighted the pivotal role of Madhya Pradesh in the country’s AI roadmap during the Madhya Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026 held in Bhopal.
The IndiaAI Mission, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), aims to democratize AI access, nurture home-grown AI talent, and build an ethical, inclusive AI ecosystem across India. Under Singh’s leadership, the mission has been rolling out strategies to expand compute infrastructure, foster startup innovation, and deploy AI solutions for governance and public services.
Madhya Pradesh: A Strategic AI Partner
Singh emphasized that Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a key hub for AI experimentation and implementation. The state’s vibrant tech ecosystem, particularly in cities like Indore with robust startup communities working alongside premier institutions such as IIT Indore and IIM Indore, showcases practical AI use cases—from geographic information systems to solutions for malnutrition, agriculture, and healthcare.
He also pointed to the state’s readiness for large-scale AI deployments, such as use cases planned for major public events and governance systems. These initiatives demonstrate how regional partnerships can feed into the national AI strategy and create scalable models for other states.
Building Infrastructure and Skills
As part of the mission’s collaboration with Madhya Pradesh:
Data labs and AI Centres of Excellence are being established to support startups and train youth as data scientists, analysts, and AI professionals in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
The IndiaAI Mission is providing accessible compute resources, datasets, and training to government officials, innovators, and researchers at subsidized rates—boosting AI skills across sectors.
Singh also highlighted the IndiaAI Mission’s commitment to responsible and ethical AI use, with governance guidelines that focus on accountability, transparency, and trust. These principles aim to ensure AI benefits all citizens while mitigating potential risks and harms.
Local Government Initiatives
The Madhya Pradesh government, aligned with IndiaAI’s vision, has hosted the regional AI conference and is planning to launch a dedicated AI policy for the state. Officials emphasized AI’s role in improving governance, citizen services, and economic development.
The state’s focus on data-driven governance, skill development, and innovation reflects a broader national strategy of integrating AI into public services and empowering local technology ecosystems.
