iPhone 12 Pro Max unboxing and first impressions

It’s been a month since Apple introduced its new iPhone 12 series, but if you wanted the iPhone 12 mini or the iPhone 12 Pro Max, you had to wait a couple of weeks longer than those that wanted the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro. But the iPhone 12 Pro Max is finally here, and it is a gorgeous device.

All of Apple’s new iPhones pack a full redesign, looking more like the old iPhone 4 style with the shiny stainless steel frame. Indeed, this is the first iPhone I’ve had since the iPhone X that felt like a completely different phone.

But of course, it’s not just a different look. There’s a lot to unpack here. Apple put its best cameras into the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is why that’s the one that I wanted. The zoom lens is 2.5x instead of 2x, so that should be fun to test out. In fact, the camera array is the main difference from the iPhone 12 Pro, other than the obvious size.

It has Apple’s new A14 Bionic processor, along with support for 5G connectivity. And like all of the iPhone 12 models, it supports both sub6 and mmWave 5G. I went for the Gold model, but if you want the new color, you’ll want to get Pacific Blue. The good news about this year’s colors is that since the Pro Max was delayed beyond when the Pro arrived, you could see the colors in stores, and that’s what I did. Normally, if you pre-order an iPhone, you can’t actually see it until you pick it up.
